Pact Espresso Blend

Country: Guatemala, Brazil
Brand: Pact
Rating:

It's fair to say that I've found many of Pact's coffees a little underpowered for my taste. The flavours have been pleasant enough, but I like a little more punch to my morning (or evening) mug.

If any of their coffees are going to hit the spot, then surely the Espresso Blend will. A blend of Guatemalan and Brazilian coffees, it certainly looks to have a nice dark roast which will hopefully show through in the taste.

The aroma is encouraging; burnt caramel sweetness with the darkest chocolate and just a hint of nuttiness.

Brewed, the sweetness is gentler and more fudge-like while the nuttiness becomes more pronounced. At the same time, a distinct old wood smell begins to come through.

In the mouth, there's a decent body accompanied by a fudge sweetness. The bitterness doesn't really come through until you swallow, and then it washes away the richness of the coffee leaving your mouth dry.

While it's not hugely strong, it's definitely the most robust Pact coffee yet; the dry finish is a little overblown, but aside from that it's a pleasure to drink. 3.5 stars.
