I think if I had to pick my dream job, whisky blender would be firmly on the top 10 list. While I’m sure it’s a hard job in reality, in my mind you’d just get to spend all day tasting the most phenomenal casks and putting them together in new and fun ways.

Blended Malt No. 2 Batch 2 (43.1% ABV) is a dark golden dram, suggesting at least some of it’s components have been aged in some interesting casks.
If anything, TBWC is more enigmatic about the content of this batch than they were with No. 1 Batch 1, with the description giving no clues whatsoever, other than conceding that it’s scotch whisky.
The nose is heavenly; brown sugar and blackened wood are slowly joined by cloves and dried redcurrants. As it sits in the glass, a subtle aroma of custard(!) starts to emerge. Water brings out more oak, but robs us of the sweetness.
In the mouth it’s sweet and spicy; sherry-soaked cherries dipped in chilli and caramel, against a bonfire backdrop.
Watered, it loses a little of the spice but it’s still sticky sweet and there’s a little more ash coming through while the finish becomes more peppery.
Another dram to enjoy neat I think, and ‘enjoy’ doesn’t feel a big enough word. Magnificent, 4.5 stars.
