Coffee Review

3.0 stars

Kilimanjaro is the highest volcano in Africa although, thankfully, it hasn’t had a major eruption for more than a third of a million years. This is good news for coffee lovers, because it’s location and elevation make it perfect coffee growing territory.

Kilimanjaro is a medium strength coffee from CafeDirect.

The grounds have a remarkably fruity aroma – blackcurrants and dried wood, with a hint of condensed milk in the background.

Brewed, the acidity of the blackcurrants is much more pronounced and there’s a bitter dark chocolate character too.

In the mouth, the acidity is what hits your tongue first – after that, there’s a little soft caramel sweetness, and touches of dark fruit but everything is a little muted. It’s nicely balanced, with a gentle tannic finish and a reasonable body but it leaves me wishing there was more to it.

It’s a pleasant enough coffee, but it lacks the punch I prefer – 3 stars.
