Today’s coffee is a Colombian bean from the Norte de Santander region, which is in the North East of the country, up by Venezuela. If nothing else, my coffee habits are improving my sense of South American geography!
Toledo looks lighter roasted than I would normally go for, but has a rich aroma nonetheless. Some brown sugar dances with grated milk chocolate and just a hint of dried orange peel in the background.
Brewed, the sweetness is reduced and the chocolate notes become darker. At the same time, the orange aromas become a little richer and more pronounced.
In the mouth, the light body belies quite a robust flavour; dark chocolate coated orange peel, with a generous but not aggressive bitterness and a dry, lingering finish. Tasty and satisfying, 3 stars.
