Coffee: Taylors Indonesia

Coffee Review

4.0 stars

Taylors remain one of my ‘go-to’ supermarket coffee brands, so my curiosity was well and truly piqued when I noticed a new range in my local store.  Apparently released back in February, either their ‘Origins’ range have only just reached our Waitrose or I’ve been in too much of a coffee-deprived daze when wandering down the coffee aisle to have spotted them up to now.

Their main range is blended, while this new one is focused on single origin coffees. The packaging is smart and features a subtle map of the country in question (something which less clear on the Indonesia pack than the rest of the range).

Taylors Indonesia Coffee

Indonesia is the strongest of the range, which made it an obvious choice to start with.

The grounds are deeply roasted, with a sweet, rich aroma – sun-warmed wood, cocoa and just the edge of gentle cinnamon. Brewed, those notes are joined by a warm, fresh tobacco tone.

Unusually, the initial taste is distinctly bitter before the soft, honey sweetness comes through. Beneath that is a gentle nuttiness and a delightfully lingering richness.

It’s a delicious coffee that leaves me eager to try the others in the Origin range – 4 stars.
